Tree Walk construction, Regen,Kinoo, off Waiyaki Way

Tree walk construction requires that the walk is placed at a good height, preferably 6 to 10 meters above ground. The trees need to be at least 15 meters in height and preferably hardwood types to offer the support strength needed.
In this project we used Croton Megalocarpus trees which are 40 to 50 years old.

Safety.

The wire ropes used for support can support up to 9.25 tons.

Breaking Loads

We have used 4 support ropes, meaning the tree walk can support up to 36 tons of weight. The 4 ropes, 2 on the floor level and 2 on the hand rail level each act as a redundant for the other, in case one breaks, the other 3 will support.

The floor is made of blue gum planks which are weather resistant. They are held together by hoop iron and wire mesh as an additional safety measure to ensure the planks are held firmly. The planks are also help together by the bottom 2 wire rails using u nails.

Trees are bolted at 2 levels, nearly 1 meter apart to ensure double safety for the steel bars that support the wire rope and walkway. The steel bars supports are bolted through the tree on both sides to ensure maximum safety.
