  • Tensile fabric canopies and roofs, Kenya.

Tensile fabric canopies and roofs have an advantage in that they are light weight, hence less materials are used to support them, ensuring cost savings.

Tensile fabric roofs are also unique in architectural design, offering aesthetics that are good for attracting customers if its a business or ‘feel good’ achievement if its a personal residential house or office.

Tensile fabric structures can also span and cover large surface areas, hence suitable for large buildings such as churches or malls.

a4architect.com provides custom made bespoke designs for tensile fabric roofs and canopies that will fit within a particular client’s architectural requirements, budget and space. Structural design to ensure the tensile fabric tents withstand wind pressure is also included in the design.

Businesses such as petrol stations that need to stand out from the crowd are very suitable for use of the tensile fabric canopy roofs so as to attract more customers.

Churches and social halls that are on leased lands and thus require frequent moving are also suitable for using this tensile fabric tent method.

Nairobi Chapel along Ngong road has already utilized this method to house themselves.

The popular Churchill show on TV also utilises these tensile tents due to their ability to house large numbers and be easily dismantled and assembled at different sites.

Tensile fabric canopies are also a good way for covering outdoor sitting areas for restaurants.

  • Rotary Club of Ngong Hills Boda boda shed.

The Rotary Club of Ngong hills boda boda shed is located at the junction of Zambia road and Ngong road.

The architectural design is inspired by the Ngong hills as viewed from Nairobi City.

The pyramidal roof peaks symbolize the Ngong hills peaks.

The pyramidal roof is at 45 degrees slope while the mid section joining roof is at 22 degrees slope, requiring significant skill to join these two different slopes together.

The unique architectural design will serve as a land mark that visitors to Ngong town can use to locate where they are. The unique design will also attract passersby to inquire about Rotary Club of Ngong hills, thereby increasing awareness and boosting new members into the Rotary Club of Ngong hills.

    Utility.

The Boda boda shed will provide shade for the boda boda motorbike rides who wait at the Zambia road junction for passengers. This will improve the quality of life of the boda boda riders and provide a better environment where the boda boda riders can engage with Rotary Club of Ngong hills and County Government of Kajiado so as to ensure the riders are impacted with safe riding skills for a better environment.

    Security.

The roof has been architecturally designed to contain several peaces of roofing sheets instead of a full uncut roofing sheet so as to avoid cases of burglary whereby burglars prefer a whole roofing sheet to be resold or reused elsewhere. In this case since the roofing sheet is already cut into a small piece, it makes it undesirable for reuse or resale.

The utility shop/room at the far end corner will also provide security in that when its in use, the occupant will take care of the structure in case of defacement by advertisement stickers or burglars.

The 3 inch wide support steel columns also increase security in that it takes alot of time to cut through this size of steel hence undesirable for burglars.
